What we do
Harbour Care Centre is a welcoming place to call home. Located in Portishead, North Somerset, we focus on helping our residents live a good life, offering companionship and alleviating many of the burdens of later years.
Harbour Care Centre supports residents in their daily living while providing shared experiences and companionship. As one of the friendliest care homes in Portishead, we proudly serve residents from across the district drawing from towns such as Clevedon, Weston-super-Mare, Nailsea, Pill, Ashton, and parts of Bristol.
Harbour Care Centre offers 24-hour residential care, dementia care, and nursing care, all set within a vibrant community of like-minded folks. Our residency also provides respite breaks for those who are convalescing or seeking a trial period before committing to a more permanent move. Many of our residents have returned time and again with respite stays, making Harbour their permanent home when circumstances dictated. As Harbour Care Centre offers a range of care from supportive, assisted living through to more comprehensive nursing care services, we are uniquely positioned to provide a home for our residents that addresses their evolving care needs. Our residential, on-site carers and nursing teams mean we are also able to offer a continuity of care that is rare within our industry. We utilise virtually no agency staff, which means residents are able to form strong, trusting relationships with our individual carers. It shows in the atmosphere that pervades the home.
We are also well known for our fast responses in situations where speed of response is crucial. We are happy to go the extra mile when someone needs our help.
Where we do it
Situated on Haven View, just off Harbour Road, Harbour Care Centre is part of the popular Harbourside development in Portishead. This ideal location provides residents with easy access to the picturesque marina, perfect for leisurely waterfront strolls or the occasional visit to the local Posset Cup pub.
The local area is vibrant and well-connected, featuring essential amenities right at your doorstep. Our designated GP service, The Harbourside Family Practice GP, is conveniently located across the way from our car home.
This blend of coastal charm and convenient access to amenities makes life at our Portishead nursing home vibrant and energising allowing residents to engage actively with the Portishead community around them whilst enjoying our supportive, family-focused residence.
Please note that parking on-site is free and plentiful but there are enforcement cameras there to ensure that our car park is used only by family and staff of Harbour Care Centre. If you are visiting, be sure to notify the receptionist or input your vehicle registration in the reception area.
The local care services we offer
We have a dedicated dementia care suite on the ground floor of our Portishead care home, which we call our Willow suite. Harbour has residents all living with varying degrees of dementia.
Harbour Care Centre is a nursing home in Portishead and we admit people with nursing care needs. They reside on our middle floor, our Sycamoure suite. Residents here receive clinical care services such as help managing complex medical needs, monitoring of health conditions, and basic medical interventions. Some residents here also live with dementia as well as having nursing requirements, our so-called Nursing Dementia category of care.
Harbour Care Centre is a care home in Portishead that admits many residents to its residential care suite. Such residents need only basic personal care, such as help with washing and changing, or perhaps assistance with mobility. These residents are pretty independent and occupy our top-floor Cherry suite. We have some great views over Portishead from our residential care community.

Care in Portishead
Many residents return to us regularly for short spells as needed and eventually make their stay permanent. It works well for many of our residents who can sample Harbour life before moving in permanently. We welcome residents for shorter periods.
We have built a Portishead care home of which we are proud
Harbour Care Centre takes pride in being one of the most welcoming care homes in Portishead. The culture at our care home embodies the belief that “life is for living”. Under Wayne Price’s leadership, our Home Manager for five years, we have created a homely, family-oriented atmosphere.
Our long-serving team of carers and nurses provide a unique continuity of care, with many unusually living on-site. This familiar presence fosters companionship and trust among residents.
Joy and spontaneity are hallmarks of our environment. Whether it’s a spontaneous fishing trip at the marina, a stroll along Clevedon promenade, or enjoying a pint at The Posset Cup, we consider fun and spontaneity essential ingredients for living well!
We actively engage with the Portishead community, maintaining open-door policies with local nurseries and volunteers. By including residents in staff recruitment and celebrating our team’s diversity, we cultivate an inclusive and empowered senior living community.
We are a care home that listens and responds; it is how we continually adapt to the needs and expectations of our residents and their families. We run regular forums for people to share their ideas or experiences of our home, it shapes the community you see today.
What did you do today?
Jerry has been spreading the love today. He makes a great lap warmer.
We ventured to the M5 Gordano service station to enjoy the hospitality of Starbucks UK. This was Paul's first visit and we enjoyed meeting his daughter Polly, who came along and enjoyed some free tea and cake.
Audrey has been getting in on the lego building. She looks well chuffed! I think they are flower pots.
What people say about us
Harbour care centre staff have been fantastic with my dad who’s been in care now for 14 weeks. They are friendly and extremely helpful. I think they could do with additional nursing staff on the advance dementia ward as it’s a very challenging. The centre is currently being redecorated and the facilities are spacious and welcoming. Entertainment is provided which has been very stimulating for its guests. Funding from North Somerset council is a problem and this issue needs to be resolved immediately. This has caused my family so much stress in a time of immense sadness. My father has settled really well and I can not praise the staff enough. Profits and council nonsense must not come before patients care and best interests.
I have been coming to Harbour Care for a while now to deliver Intergeneration sessions. The staff are amazing to work with, friendly, and helpful. The building and facilities are clean, warm, and homely. The residents are well cared for and seem really happy, there’s always a lovely sense of community. Activities are varied and engaging, and it’s clear that they put real effort into making daily life meaningful and enjoyable for everyone.
My Mother in Law has been here for almost a year now . It has now very much become a home for her . Her room suits her perfectly being spacious, modern and comfortable! It has an excellent lounge and dining area ! You would think you might be in a very nice Hotel! As much as those things are all important the main asset of Harbour House are the staff !! From entering into the reception area and being greeted by Eloise, who is very friendly and helpful , to the staff looking after my MIL . Have to mention the amazing Lobi , Anu, Ladylin, Nikita Sally and ‘V’ , in fact all the staff are incredible and make her stay there enjoyable !!
I had a lovely experience visiting Harbour in Portishead. All the staff were warm and welcoming, providing exceptional care for loved ones. Their kindness and professionalism made a real difference.
My relative moved here a few weeks ago and so far seems very happy, every time I visit staff are very attentive and friendly, lovely hot meals are served and lots of entertainment including Bingo and singers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our Portishead care home fees
- At Harbour Care Centre, we operate a transparent person-centred pricing schedule, based on your individual needs.
- The prices below represent the fees for the lower levels of dependency for each service.
- A full assessment of your needs will be carried out prior to admission to determine your individual needs, how we may meet them, and the cost of care. This is mostly done by Renata, our deputy and a qualified nurse. Assessments can be made at home, in hospital or even over the phone if time and mobility are an issue.
- We understand that needs can change over time and we continue to assess these on an ongoing basis to ensure that all our resident’s receive the care they need at all times.
- Should you be entitled to funding by a Local Authority, the NHS or any other third party, this will count towards the overall weekly fee set out below and you or your representative will be liable to pay for any portion of the cost not covered by the third-party funding
- There are small premiums for some rooms.
- Harbour Care Centre currently has room availability (updated daily) across Residential Care, Nursing Care and Dementia Care.

Our meals
Meal times are special occasions at Harbour Care Centre, where we gather in the dining areas across all floors. These meals take place between 12:30pm and 1:30pm daily, so we encourage visitors to keep these hours in mind.
Our chef prioritises locally Somerset sourced, seasonal ingredients to create meals that are both comforting and delightful. Regular feedback ensures that residents are satisfied with their dining experience and that all dietary needs are met.
At times, we grow our own herbs, making our ingredients exceptionally fresh and local!
Stories from our Portishead care home
Wayne Price is a registered nurse who chose a career in elderly care after caring for his mother for a prolonged period.
Meet our manager
Wayne Price is a seasoned nursing home leader with 20 years of hands-on experience in clinical and management roles right here in the Bristol area. Back in 2007, he graduated from the University of the West of England and began building his skills at some of Bristol’s top hospitals, including Bristol General Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary. From here, he went on to lead at two nursing homes in the North Somerset area before joining Harbour Care Centre in 2020.
Wayne has transformed the fortunes of our Portishead care home, which had had its problems before his arrival. Working closely with his deputy, Renata, they have overhauled the working culture at the home, reinstated a high level of care, opened up two new floors, built a loyal team of carers and nurses and got the home back up to a CQC rating of “Good” in every area.
Wayne spends a lot of time on the floors, is accessible to family and residents, and actively involves them in the hiring process so that new staff are vetted. Wayne has really worked to make Harbour Care Centre a part of the local Portishead community and build a loyal, stable management team.
"Harbour Care Centre feels more like an extended family than a place of work. We have worked hard to build this up, and we are rightly proud of the team we have."
Meet our deputy
Renata Bochnak is a nurse with nearly 20 years of experience. Currently residing in Bristol, she spent 13 years with another local care company, where she met Wayne. She joined Wayne at Harbour four years ago and has been instrumental in creating the Portishead care home we see today. She uses her extensive clinical background to lead her team and foster a “family” atmosphere.
FAQs
Availability changes on a daily basis as residents are admitted or discharged. If a specific unit—such as our Willow dementia suite—is at capacity, we can place your loved one on a waiting list. Currently we have availability across all care services. We recommend contacting our receptionist, Jeanette, for the latest availability.
We provide various levels of support, including residential care, nursing care, and dedicated dementia (EMI) care.. Harbour Care Centre is dual-registered, meaning we offer both residential and nursing facilities; this allows residents to remain in the same environment even if their medical needs increase over time
Inside the home, every staff member—from maintenance to housekeeping—is a daily companion, sharing meaningful tasks like gardening or laundry. We encourage resident socialising through activities that encourage mixing, gender-specific clubs, and interest groups. Ultimately, it is companionship that ensures residents don’t just receive care, but continue to live full, connected, and purposeful lives.
There is an assessment process for all new residents. Renata, our deputy carries out the vast majority of these. We have many residents who are regular short stay residents and their entry is obviously much quick than it is for a new resident. However Harbour Care Centre is know for its flexibility and the speed with which it can accept new residents. Staff have been know to physically help on move ins if there is a scarcity of family or friends.
Yes, the home has larger rooms specifically designed for couples, allowing husbands and wives to stay together while receiving the necessary support
Aside from accommodation, there is plenty of mixing between our floors, whether it’s enjoying the garden or entertainment, residents mix freely and are happy to do so. There is also plenty of movement between floors, whether it’s because someone’s needs have evolved or just because they wanted to be closer to a new friend. Harbour Care Centre is extremely flexible about these arrangements but as a rule our ground floor (Willow suite) caters for residents living with dementia, our first floor (Sycamore suite) is mainly for residents with nursing care needs and our top (with views of Portishead, and our Cherry suite) is mainly for residents needing only personal care and who have a reasonable level of independence.
Yes, residents are allowed to bring pets although dogs and cats are problematic. Harbour Care Centre has its own resident rabbits, Tom and Jerry, who are a central part of the community’s approach to animal therapy. We also have a regular pat dog visit us as well as a whole host of exotic animals.
Residents have access to both front and rear gardens. The front garden has been recently “re-booted” to include play equipment for young visitors, making it a “grandchildren garden” where residents can watch their family play. The rear garden is dedicated to our residents from the ground floor, our dementia suite Willow.
