Lornebank’s Dementia Care Approach: Fun & Games

For people living with dementia, staying active and engaged can make a significant difference to daily life, which is why games, puzzles, sensory resources, and structured tasks form a key part of our approach at Lornebank.
Residents with dementia like to knit

At Lornebank Care Centre in Hamilton, and often within our specialist dementia suite, Peacock, we place great importance on providing meaningful activities that support wellbeing, comfort, and give our residents living with dementia a sense of purpose. We understand that staying active and engaged can make a significant difference to daily life, which is why games, puzzles, sensory resources, and structured tasks form a key part of our approach.

In addition to games and sensory activities, we involve residents in simple but repetitive tasks, such as sorting items, cleaning, folding towels, or matching objects. These tasks help residents remain focused while providing a reassuring sense of routine and purpose. Familiar, repetitive actions can be especially comforting for people with dementia, offering structure to their day and supporting emotional wellbeing. It also means we have the cleanest cutlery you could imagine! For many of our residents both male and female, housework has been something they have always done so why remove that from their lives? Lornebank is their home, so we let them clean it if that is what they want to do.

Residents living with dementia enjoy everyday tasks.
