Life is a Celebration at our Dundee Care Home

Anyone for a cuppa and a blather? That's the vibe at Pitkerro Nursing Care Home in Dundee. We're not just about care; we're about creating a real home-from-home, a place where everyone feels part of something. Overlooking Finlathern Park, in the north of Dundee and adjacent to the Dighty Burn, it's a pretty sweet spot. We're all about looking after folks, whether they need a bit of help with day-to-day life or a bit more nursing support.

We've got a brilliant team of nurses and carers who arepatient, empathetic and all round good eggs, and they're here to help with allsorts of things. The ethos of the home is that every staff member from the manager to the maintenance worker has a part to play the overall feel of the home. From dementia and stroke care to Parkinson's, MS, MND, and Huntington'sdisease, we've got you covered with companionship, support and personal nursing care. We even have a special little unit for those with more complex dementia needs.

Forget stuffy and boring! We're all about keeping things lively. Think parties, bread-making sessions, and even a silent disco! We're big on getting everyone involved, and we're always up for trying new things. Plus, with the park and the burn right on our doorstep, we love getting out and about. We’re also very active in the community of Dundee and thanks to ourfriends at Dundee Dragons, we get out for occasional day trips across Fife and Angus.

We reckon everyone deserves to feel at home, and we workhard to make Pitkerro a place where you can relax, have a laugh, and enjoylife. So, if you're looking for a friendly and welcoming Dundee nursing home, come and have a chat with us. We'd love to show you around and introduce you to our residents, who will tell you themselves how we celebrate life together!

Life at our Nursing Care Home

Pitkerro Nursing Home offers a warm and inviting environment with a range of facilities designed to enhance residents' well-being. Our home features spacious communal lounges and dining areas, fostering social interaction and a sense of community. We have two gardens, a smaller one easily accessible from the cafe area, and a larger one perfect for summer barbecues and outdoor activities, including apple picking from our own trees.

Our activity program is a vibrant and inclusive affair, with residents and staff collaborating on ideas. We host regular parties, bread-making sessions, and unique events like silent discos. We encourage residents to enjoy the outdoors with walks along the nearby Dighty Burn and trips to Finlathern Park. You will often find us crafting the hours away, indulging in some leisurely painting, a bit of board gaming, walks or being royally entertained by local singers. We receive a lot of children of various ages who like to come and read with us or just play games.

Inside, we provide a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, with dedicated units for different levels of care, including a specialized EMI unit. We prioritize creating a lively and engaging environment, ensuring residents have opportunities for both social interaction and personal enjoyment.

Lynsey Robbie

Meet the Manager

Lynsey Robbie, the heart of Pitkerro Care Centre in Dundee, brings over two decades of nursing expertise to her role as Care Home Manager. A registered general nurse, her journey began within the NHS, where she honed her skills in intensive care and medical wards. Driven by a desire for more personalized elderly care, she transitioned to the private sector, steadily progressing from nursing to being a regional manager. More recently, and luckily for us, Lynsey now just wants to focus on being the manager of Pitkerro, a home where she knows everyone by name.

Lynsey’s commitment is evident in her hands-on approach; the home has zero agency staff, something most Dundee nursing homes are unable to match but when nurses have been absent through illness, Lynsey has been know to volunteer to fill the gap! She loves the work and this also helps her to remain connected to the daily realities of care. Her focus extends beyond management, as she prioritizes creating a warm, homely environment where residents feel valued and supported. She's passionate about listening to their life stories and actively dispelling negative perceptions of nursing homes as being dull and lifeless places by providing varied, engaging activities and a rich quality of life.

Believing in empowering her team, Lynsey emphasizes strong training and values staff contributions. Ultimately, her dedication lies in delivering high standards of care and fostering a nurturing environment for every resident in her care.

It was a Mothers Day well celebrated at Pitkerro with a Daffodil tea and some excellent cakes. What a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
Dear supporters and friends. We are needing to dig a pond for our new feathered duck friends. The pond will be an area where residents can sit when the weather is fine to enjoy the ducks and other wildlife. Does anyone know someone with a digger who wouldn't mind digging out a decent sized pond?
Isabella and Jeannie went for a walk along the Dighty burn today making new friends as they went. It felt great in the spring sunshine. What lovely pictures of two good friends sharing a walk with eachother.
We had a visit on Friday from the splendid young things at Dundee and Angus College who come to visit us and to play, talk and craft with us. So nice to see the younger generation take time out to spend time with us. I think it is fair to say both groups took away a lot from this meeting. Thanks for coming.
