Who is it for?
Pitkerro Care Centre in Dundee receives residents from across the city with a range of memory care needs.
At Pitkerro, there is a dedicated dementia care suite, our Ashton suite, which is a small-scale community for those with more advanced dementia needs. Our Baxter suite also caters for residents with less complex, less advanced memory care needs.
At Pitkerro Care Centre in Dundee, our dedicated nursing and dementia care is built on a foundation of clinical excellence and a vibrant, “whole-home” approach to living a good life. Our service is dedicated to ensuring that residents with dementia live active, fulfilled lives in a safe and supportive environment.
We can provide 24-hour nursing support for those living with dementia and, in addition to encouraging everyone within the home to play a part, we also benefit from having a loyal staff team who build strong social connections with our residents, providing a level of continuity and familiarity that is rare in our industry. It really helps that residents are always greeted by familiar faces they can trust.
Our clinical oversight is robust, and we have regular reviews to remain responsive to every resident’s changing health needs. As dementia progresses we are able to continue our care for that individual.

What conditions does Memory Care cover?
Memory care is designed primarily for individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, but it encompasses a wider range of neurological conditions and support needs.
Our Dundee nursing home is equipped to handle a range of conditions and can also provide Nursing Dementia Care (sometimes referred to as EMI), meaning Pitkerro Care Centre can offer 24-hour medical oversight for complex needs, as well as alongside Respite Care for families requiring short-term dementia support
- Alzheimer’s Disease: The most common form, primarily affecting memory and cognitive function.
- Vascular Dementia: Often caused by strokes or reduced blood flow to the brain.
- Mixed Dementia: A combination of two or more types (e.g., Alzheimer's and Vascular).
- Lewy Body Dementia: Can involve hallucinations and movement issues similar to Parkinson's.
- Frontotemporal Dementia: Often affects personality, behavior, and language before memory.
- Memory care also supports conditions that overlap with cognitive decline. This includes Parkinson’s Disease, which requires specialized nursing for mobility and potential cognitive changes, and stroke recovery for those with resulting cognitive impairment.
- Admission is often driven by safety concerns rather than just a diagnosis. Memory care provides a secure environment for residents experiencing wandering, "sundowning" (confusion that worsens at night), or significant difficulty with daily tasks like bathing and eating.
