What we do

Sandiacre Court Care Centre is a purpose-built, 81-bed residency that provides a comprehensive spectrum of support for the elderly, from residential care for the more independently minded, to more complex nursing care for individuals seeking:

  • Short-term rehabilitative care post-operation
  • Complex clinical care such as wound management, specialised feeding and respiratory support
  • Palliative end-of-life care
  • Specialised memory and neurological care

Our Sandiacre care home also offers dementia care from low dependency to more advanced, complex forms. Some of our residents have been with us for many years and have chosen to make Sandiacre Court their ‘forever home’, migrating from residential to nursing care as their personal circumstances change.

Where we do it

Located in Sandiacre (NG10), and overlooking the Erewash Valley, Sandiacre Court Care Centre is owned and operated by Hudson Healthcare and has proudly served the local Erewash community since 2013.  The care home draws residents from a local catchment that includes Long Eaton and Stapleford, as well as towns such as Bramcote, Beeston and Chilwell. The home is a 5-minute drive from junction 25 of the M1 and is well served by the i4 bus, which stops right outside our care home and continues into Nottingham city centre. Our nursing home enjoys plenty of free on-site parking for guests.

Our dedicated top-floor dementia suite, Robin, has its own en-suite bedrooms and activity programme. This floor accepts residents living with more advanced and complex memory care needs.

Nursing care accommodation is on our middle floor, our Maple suite, and overseen by our lead nurse, Christine Kapuya. Here we manage conditions such as stroke, diabetes, cancer care, and also include residents who may also have dementia care issues, or require wound management or medication.

Our ground-floor Sherwood suite is where our more independent residents live. Most of our residents here require personal care, such as help with dressing and washing, although some may have milder forms of dementia. The views overlooking Sandiacre and Stapleford are very popular with our residents.

Respite
Care in Sandiacre

We offer short-term respite stays with a minimum stay of 2 weeks. Many of our residents use this as an opportunity to try out our nursing or residential care before committing to a permanent move. For others, it is a vital means of flexible support that they can utilise when circumstances dictate. For some, it is the idea of a means of recuperation or convalescence post-hospital visits.

I deliver adapted sports sessions at this care home every two weeks, and it’s always an amazing experience with fantastic engagement from the residents. The staff are lovely, attentive, and genuinely caring. Donna, the manager, is incredible — she listens to ideas, encourages new activities, and supports everything in every way possible. Sandy on reception is also extremely helpful when organising the sessions and always makes things easy and welcoming. The home itself is friendly, caring, and full of life, with plenty always going on for the residents. It’s a warm and welcoming environment, and it’s clear how much effort the whole team puts into creating a positive atmosphere for everyone

You only have to visit to see how happy the residents are. Lots of different activities to stimulate individuals. I had the pleasure of entertaining the residents recently - chair based exercise and dancing. So lovely to see the giggles and smiles. Thank you for letting us visit. @stepbystepschoolofdance

A wonderful centre. Staff are all very friendly, residents are always well looked after and entertained with lots of activities. A calm and comfortable atmosphere.

What did you do today?

Late last week we had the boys from Stapleford Fire Brigade call in to sort out a small probelm which they were able to do with the minimum of fuss. Thank you lads for your prompt response!

We enjoyed the Lion Learners East Midlands menagerie who visited us with their darling furry friends. Brought a smile to many faces and for many of our residents living with dementia, it was a powerful touchstone with their childhood memories of stroking their own pets.

We have been royally entertained this week by the lovely Kevin and Marie.

Our activities

Activities and entertainment is the beating heart of Sandiacre Court. Activities are often attended by residents from all three floors who mix freely, dementia-appropriate activities take place in the ground-floor Sherwood lounge.

Socialising

Resident-to-resident support is a big feature of life at Sandiacre Court. Companionships bloom between all sorts of people and we encourage our staff to build their relationships with residents.

Day trips

We get out into Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire whenever we can.  We have been to Woolaton Hall and Park and the Erewash Canal for a strole.

Our meals

Meal times are when we all come together in each of the dining areas on each floor. We do this between 12-30pm and 13-30pm each day, so please keep visiting at these hours to a minimum. As you can appreciate, it gets pretty busy, and for our residents, it’s an important time.

Chef always likes to use locally sourced, seasonal fare whenever possible, but meals are always tasty and comforting. Our chef likes to follow the food and check that residents are happy with the dishes and that all dietary requirements are being met. We have been known to grow our own herbs, so sometimes the ingredients are very local indeed!

Care home manager Donna Evans
Donna Evans & Helen Mellors

Meet our manager & administrator

Donna Evans (left), manager of Sandiacre Court, has 15 years of experience specialising in elderly care across Nottingham and into Derbyshire. Having progressed from a care assistant to a regional manager, she leverages this extensive background to lead her team with empathy and understanding. Her philosophy focuses on establishing a “home from home” environment, driven by an approachable, open-door policy and constant visibility on the care floor. Donna views direct feedback as essential for service improvement and believes a natural passion for care is the most vital attribute in her staff. She also champions person-centred care, purposefully avoiding regimental routines to respect individual resident preferences.

Helen Mellors (right), our ever-present administrator, has been with the home since 2019 and has moved from reception to her current role, helping run the home. She is the Swiss Army Knife of care home administrators! Helen is from Long Eaton and is a well-known face in the community, having worked in the local travel agents for many years. She helps Donna with new enquiries and keeping families welcomed and informed.

Senior Care Unit Manager
Claire Pell

Meet our senior care manager

Claire, recently promoted here at Sandiacre, is dedicated to maintaining an efficient, smooth-running environment built on the foundation of strong teamwork. She oversees our residential care on our ground floor, Sherwood suite and is passionate about fostering a supportive culture where staff members look out for one another to provide the best possible care.

Her philosophy is strictly person-centred, rejecting rigid routines in favour of resident choice. Whether it’s deciding when to wake up or choosing between activities, Claire ensures residents lead the way. She prioritizes spontaneous, meaningful engagement—like a quick game of cards or sharing favorite music—over forced formal events, ensuring that every day is tailored to individual preferences.

Head Nurse Unit Sandiacre Court
Christine Kapuya

Meet our nursing lead

Christine Kapuya is our Sandiacre Court Nurse Unit Manager and oversees the nursing care on our Maple suite, which accommodates the majority of residents with nursing care needs. Aqualified nurse originally trained in Zimbabwe, she moved to England in 2019. Since then, her experience locally has been exclusively within care homes. She is highly skilled in clinical interventions such as medication management, peg feeding, and catheterisation. Christine chose the care sector over the NHS to provide better flexibility for her young family.

FAQs

We offer a comprehensive range of support including residential care, nursing care, dementia care, and respite care for up to 81 residents. Our home is rated “Good“ by the CQC and is structured to meet diverse needs:

• Residential (Sherwood Floor): For independent residents who wish to maintain an active lifestyle, including trips to local shops or concerts.

• Nursing (Maple Floor): Staffed 24/7 by qualified nurses to support complex conditions such as Parkinson’s, diabetes, and respiratory disorders.

• Dementia Care (Robin Floor): A dedicated suite on the top floor designed for safety and sensory comfort, including a specialist garden

We aim to help you “age in place” whenever possible. If a resident on our residential floor develops nursing needs, we strive to bring the care to them rather than moving them to a different unit. This allows residents to remain in their familiar room with the friends and staff they know. However, if a resident’s clinical needs become very high-dependency (e.g., requiring continuous observation), we may recommend a move to our specialist nursing floor to ensure the safest level of care.

We understand that moving into a care home is a big transition, so we have a unique “Resident Buddy“ system. Friendly long-term residents act as ambassadors, welcoming newcomers, showing them around, and introducing them to others, ensuring you have a friend from day one. We also encourage residents to personalise their en-suite rooms to create a true “home from home” environment.

Absolutely. We actively encourage family and friends to visit and be part of our community. We facilitate family celebrations; we recently hosted a private “fish and chip” supper for a resident’s family. For residents receiving palliative care, we support family members who wish to stay overnight in the room with their loved one, ensuring you can be together during the most critical times.
