A few weeks ago, our staff and residents held their own dedicated cultural celebration as a way to honour different backgrounds and customs, whilst kicking off the festive period.
We decided to carry out our own version of the traditional Thai Loy Krathong Light Festival. As one of the most picturesque festivals in Bangkok, people commonly pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing beautiful lotus-shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense and flowers, onto the water. The release of these objects symbolises letting go of anger and negativity and starting anew.
To bring this beautiful tradition to the Home for all to enjoy, residents made their own Lotus flower rafts from greaseproof paper, which were floated in a small pool outside with a little candle burning. The Home also enjoyed a Thai-themed meal which included spring rolls, red curry chicken and jasmine rice, to really satisfy all the senses.
